MONDRAGON joins the Gaia-X European cloud data infrastructure project
MONDRAGON is actively working towards effective deployment of the Gaia-X standard in the industrial sector. It recently submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation to create a Spanish Gaia-X node, now set to be a reality by the end of this year. Also, in collaboration with the Basque Government (the Science and Technology Plan), global research on connectivity technologies is being carried out, specifically to discover the benefits a technology like Gaia-X could have for the Basque Country’s industrial fabric.
Gaia-X is a European project that invites companies, people and institutions to take part in creating a fair, open digital future.
The European Gaia-X standard
The architecture of Gaia-X is based on the principle of decentralisation. Gaia-X is the result of a multitude of individual platforms that all follow a common standard: the Gaia-X standard. The final result is not a single cloud but a federated networked system, transparent and secure, that links many services providers together with the ultimate aim of generating new applications and value based on data-sharing in an environment of trust.
Applications
Gaia-X technology can be used in applications such as traceability of components and units, environmental impact calculation for the value chain and the carbon footprint, management operations (quality, supply and demand, collaborative design), plant description and digital twins for real-time control or set-up of federated learning processes, taking advantage of global knowledge nodes, for application of Artificial Intelligence among other aspects.
What is Gaia-X? It is a proposal for the next generation of data infrastructure: an open, transparent and secure digital ecosystem, where data and services can be made available, collated and shared by different stakeholders using a federated system in an environment of trust. The initiative aims to counter the technology dominance of the American and Asian companies. It involves creating a data-sharing architecture where companies and citizens will collate and share data, keeping control over it and deciding what happens to the information supplied, where it is stored, what it is used for and how long it is kept. Gaia-X will be a standard for use by different sectors, people and institutions.
