Reporting incidents and claims to insurance companies and following up on them can be a cumbersome and time-consuming task. Improving the customer experience is precisely the objective of TEIA, an artificial intelligence solution based on advanced artificial vision algorithms developed by the Ikerlan technology centre for the Lagun Aro insurance company, in the collaboration of ISEA.

The solution, currently in the validation phase, is financed by the Basque Government's HAZITEK programme and the European Union's ERDF funds

TEIA is an innovative solution that uses artificial intelligence to assess damage to glass ceramics, with the aim of facilitating the management and shortening the resolution times of insurance claims. The solution, currently in the validation phase, is financed by the Basque Government's HAZITEK programme and the European Union's ERDF funds.

The AI algorithms developed by Ikerlan analyse photos of glass ceramic hobs to detect structural damage and extract information on the characteristics associated with the hob, such as size, brand or number of fires. he analysis of more than 2.000 photos provided over the last year has enabled significant improvements in the algorithm.

At TEIA, Ikerlan has applied its extensive experience in machine vision technologies and the development of the ‘eyes’ of IoT (internet of Things) devices to technological innovation and the development of intelligent solutions for the insurance industry. Josu Ircio, a researcher at Ikerlan, explains that ‘image standardisation techniques and data augmentation techniques have been applied to help generate synthetic samples.

In this way, the models are enriched with a sufficient number of images that allow damage to be generalised, making them more accurate and reliable. In addition, an innovative image labelling methodology has been developed that, by means of previously trained models, is able to provide the experts with proposed labels, thus facilitating the labelling process, a fundamental aspect for the training of the artificial intelligence models underlying the developed solution'. From the insurance company, Unai Echevarria, development analyst and member of the project team, explains that ‘we are confident that TEIA will not only make life easier for our customers, but will also contribute to setting new standards in the insurance sector in terms of efficiency and customer service’.
